Community Organizing
UFCW 3000, with over 50,000 members, is a powerful community. We speak many languages, come from different countries, states and counties across Washington, North Western Idaho, and Norther Oregon. We span multiple generations of lived experience and have different racial, gender, and sexual identities. We have diverse strengths and challenges, economic situations, and faith communities. We are also vitally connected. Our retail, grocery, cannabis, food processing, airport, and laundry workers are the patients of our healthcare workers, and all of our members are customers in our stores. We are also connected with non-union workers who we serve and who serve us every day.
Our ability to be safe, healthy and thrive in our workplaces and communities is impacted by structures and policies that perpetuate inequity. Only through UFCW 3000 members joining with each other and community organizations throughout Washington State can we collectively create the systems we need. We envision economic justice entwined with racial and social justice.
We believe that reciprocal relationships with our community partners are vital to building a movement based on respect, power redistribution, and resource sharing. We work together—on contract campaigns, to advocate for public policy, and to confront injustice. We are stronger together, organizing for all people at work, home, and throughout our communities.
Join Us!
MOVEMENT BUILDERS Our Movement Builders are cross-sectoral cohorts of UFCW 3000 members, within their own communities (Whatcom/Skagit, Kitsap, Spokane, Benton, Pierce, and King Counties) supporting fellow members and our community allies in engaging with the fundamental issues of our time. Together we develop ways to educate and advocate on issues including housing and homelessness, food justice, mental health, and safety at work. Movement Builders meet monthly on Zoom.
