MultiCare Capital Medical Center TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED!

On Friday, November 22, after just nine productive sessions with MultiCare, our bargaining team for the Service, Office, & Technical bargaining unit are excited to announce that we have reached a fully recommended Tentative Agreement on a 2024 successor union contract.

As we entered this round of negotiations, we knew we had a number of challenges ahead. Fresh off the heels of watching our union siblings secure groundbreaking victories earlier this year in their negotiations with MultiCare, we were determined to bring many of those critical workplace protections to our own bargaining table here in Olympia. At the same time, we faced the ongoing challenge of wages that have continued to lag behind the rapidly changing healthcare market, putting our coworkers here at an increasing disadvantage.

With these priorities in mind, our team went to work—fighting to secure a strong, competitive contract for the Service, Office, and Technical workers at MultiCare Capital Medical Center. We believe the result is a contract that will stand the test of time and keep us competitive for years to come.

We’re excited to show-off our achievements this year on increased workplace protections, such as:

  • Free Parking Guarantee: Employees will continue to receive free-of-cost parking at the hospital.

  • Paid Donning & Doffing: Hospital-required time spent donning and doffing scrubs will be paid.

  • Uniform Replacement for EVS Staff: Uniform replacement allotments for Environmental Services (EVS) staff have been secured.

We’re equally proud of the significant improvements we’ve made to our wages, including:

  • Wage Scale Overhaul: A major reformatting of the wage scale, including the removal of "ghost-steps" (years with no wage increase for continued service).

  • Market-Aligned Step Increases: Step increases are now aligned to market rates, with a standard 2.50% increase for Service & Office staff and 3.00% for Technical workers. Plus, we’ve reduced the overall length of our wage scales—meaning more money, faster!

  • Significant Wage Increases: All positions will see significant wage increases, with the majority of increases exceeding 15%!

“I’ve been at Capital for 23 years and served on the bargaining team each round since 2003- and can say this is the best contract bargain we’ve had so far!” -Julie Hinchcliffe, HUC/Monitor Tech
